Martin Barooshian Signature In a collaborative effort the Martin Barooshian Artwork Trust and the NCC Art Collection the Plaza Art Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition titled Martin Barooshian, American Surrealist.

Martin Barooshian (1929-2022) was an American painter and printmaker, active in the second half of the twentieth and early part of the twenty-first century. Barooshian served the art community as an innovator, leader, teacher, and historian. His mature work does not easily fit into any convenient category, however, he most often classified himself as a Surrealist, specifically a Biomorphic Abstract Surrealist.

The Plaza Art Gallery serves the college and community as an  exhibition space and additionally is entrusted with the care and preservation of the arts through the Nassau Community College Art Collection. The Plaza Art Gallery and Nassau Community College make a unique contribution to the public by collecting, preserving and interpreting art.  Our mission includes collecting and preserving as well as exhibiting, and educating with work not only owned but also borrowed for these ends. The NCC Art Collection includes over 400 works of art.

Throughout the late 1980s Barooshian generously donated a portion of his work to the NCC College Art Collection. Now, for the first time on view in over 30 years, we welcome you to the biomorphic world of Martin Barooshian | American Surrealist.
