Professor Sara Hosey, English

10/30/2020 | AuthorNCC

I've been teaching at NCC for almost 15 years. I teach English and Women and Gender Studies. My Ph.D. is in American Literature. I had two books come out recently. One is an academic book called "Home is Where the Hurt is: Media Depictions of Wives and Mothers" and the other is a young adult novel entitled "Iphigenia Murphy." I'll be reading from "Iphigenia Murphy" as well as some of my other work on November 2nd at 11 a.m. for a Lit, Live! event sponsored by the Creative Writing Program.

I have so many good memories of hanging out in the Women's Studies Office over on Harmon Avenue. Sometimes the Women's Studies Association would have meetings there or we would have a reception for a campus guest. It's a comfortable space with couches and a coffee pot and over the years we've had so many amazing discussions in that room. We've also had a lot of fun! The people here make the College special to me. NCC is such a beautiful, diverse, and warm community. I can't wait until we are all back together again. Until then, we are just going to have to do our best to bring that energy online and connect remotely!

For more information on the Lit, Live program on November 2nd featuring Sara please contact Sabrina.Davis@ncc.edu.

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that Nassau Community College has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.

"I served in the United States Navy in San Diego from 2014 to 2021, first on the USS Harpers Ferry and then on the USS Rushmore. When it was time for me to attend college, I chose NCC because it's veteran friendly and offers many different programs.
