I serve in the United States Air Force working on helicopters.  In the photo I was part of the Air Force Reserves.  I chose Nassau Community College because I heard good things about the education I would get here and because it’s located in my community.  My experience in the service continues to help me at the College.  I learned a lot of life lessons in the military.  Whether it’s speaking in front of people in a communications class or remembering equations for math class my military experience has been beneficial to me.

My fondest memory of NCC is spending time with my friends between classes.  Hopefully we’ll soon be able to do that again.  Ironically, where the campus sits today used to be an airfield named Mitchel Airfield.  Also in those years was the transition from the Army Air Corps into what is today’s air force.

  1. I was and continue to serve in the United states Air Force. In the picture attached I was part of the Air Force reserves.
  2. I chose Nassau Community College because I have and continue to hear good things about the education that is located in my own community.
  3. My experience in the service still to this day helps me in class as life lessons do. Whether it be speaking in front of people in communications or remembering math equations for math class that I continue to use while working on helicopters.
  4. My fondest memory at NCC is hanging out with friends in between classes, and yes this is little of a sore subject because of COVID.
  5. Where NCC sits today used to be an airfield by the name of Mitchel Airfield. From 1918 to 1961 the airfield aided in countless wars and conflicts. Also in those years was the transition from the Army Air Core into what is today's Air Force in 1947. Interestingly, there was a P-47 "thunderbolt" crash into Hofstra's Barnard hall that gave more reason for its ultimate closure years later, besides the noise complaints of course.

I started at NCC as a student in 1987 and loved it from day one! I could not wait to come back, and I got my lucky break in 1998 when I was hired as an adjunct faculty member teaching ASL (American Sign Language) classes in the evening. Our ASL program became so popular and in 2000 I was hired full time.

As a debater, I've gained a deep understanding of arguments and how to analyze them in all aspects of life, academic, domestic, or otherwise. There's nothing like the nights after a day of competition, where, after dinner, we get together to review our ballots (judges' reviews of our performances that day), discuss them, and practice our events in front of each other.
