I was hired in 2006 as adjunct faculty and 2007 as full-time faculty. Prior to this, I had been teaching and doing research at the Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Biology in Berlin (Germany), SUNY Stony Brook and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories.

NCC is special to me because of the dedicated faculty we have and the student support we offer. The Carol Farber Honors Program, the Achilles Program, the Aspires Program, the Writing Center and other initiatives offer student support and a large variety of student clubs enable students to develop leadership and teamworking skills. I believe that our small classes not only help students to learn better but also provide a safe environment to learn soft skills, to participate in discussions, to ask questions and to make friends. I love to get students excited about Biology and what nature can teach us.

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that Nassau Community College has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.
