Supplemental Instructors will provide targeted academic group sessions while building a sense of community for certain at-risk student populations. The SIs will audit courses as necessary, work collaboratively with the course instructors to facilitate relevant, up-to-date support sessions based on course content being taught each week, and be trained in successful peer coaching techniques. In addition to weekly sessions, SIs may also coordinate review sessions around exam times. Supplemental Instruction study groups and review sessions are open to any student enrolled in the course and the CSTEP.
Supplemental Instructors Job Description
The Tutor will work collaboratively with the student to facilitate relevant support sessions based on student provided course content. The Tutor will assist students with homework, test preparation, projects or papers, or to prepare students for midterms or final exams. The Tutor will guide and explain challenging concepts and assist in building confidence with study skills and organization. The Tutor will meet in person when possible or via the Internet for individual or small group tutoring primarily in math, science, and technical classes. The Tutor may hold office hours or may be available by appointment. Tutoring is open to any student enrolled in the CSTEP.
The CIRI Program is designed to provide undergraduate students at Nassau Community College engaging in internship and research experiences with the opportunity to earn financial assistance for the merit of their efforts. The CIRI Program is designed to ease the financial burden of eligible students and is not credit-bearing. The CIRI Program is open to any student enrolled in the CSTEP.
