I was in the U.S. Army from 2016 to 2019.  It was hands down the best decision of my life.  I was able to travel the world, going to Italy, France, Germany, Amsterdam, the United Kingdom and more.  Before going into the service, I was not the type to take school seriously.  I would just hope that life would work out for me instead of putting in the effort to make something of myself.  The military taught me that in order to get anything out of life you have to be willing to work on it and not just hope.  It showed me what the definition of hard work truly is.

Nassau Community College has an excellent academic reputation, so when I wanted to go back to school I couldn’t think of a better college.  I wanted to slowly get back into the day-to-day life of being a student and I certainly wanted to do it in a place that was going to help me succeed.   Towards the end of my first semester I thought I was doing semi-well after not being in school for more than five years.  I couldn’t believe that my overall GPA turned out to be a 4.0.  I never thought I’d be able to say that I had gotten all As in my classes, but the army – and NCC –  made sure that there wasn’t anything I couldn’t overcome.

I don’t think that most students know about the Veteran’s house on campus, and that it’s not just for veterans.  It’s an amazing place where you can come and relax.  If you need help with a subject, odds are there is someone in the house who has already taken the course who can provide insight.  We help each other grow and we are a little community inside of our community college.

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that Nassau Community College has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.

"I served in the United States Navy in San Diego from 2014 to 2021, first on the USS Harpers Ferry and then on the USS Rushmore. When it was time for me to attend college, I chose NCC because it's veteran friendly and offers many different programs.
