I am currently in my last semester in SUNY Nassau’s multi-award nursing program. My goals are to become a labor and delivery nurse inspired by my current rotation.

When I began nursing, I worked during the day and attended night classes. Studying was extremely hard for me as I only had the weekends. I met with a daycare close to me, and for only two full days, it would have cost me $986 a month. A fellow student suggested I reach out to the Greenhouse, NCC’s on-campus childcare center. The Greenhouse has helped me so much, not just during class time but when I needed study time or work time. They have given me the support I needed to be successful within my program – from failing my first nursing class to now having As. I am grateful my daughter gets to learn and have fun at the Greenhouse. The entire staff is truly amazing, always so welcoming, full of smiles, and are caring towards the children.

It was extremely important for me to receive the funding from the Empowerment Grant to pursue nursing. Finding out about the Empowerment Grant was a sure sign for me to continue in the nursing program. The support that SUNY Nassau has provided, along with amazing care for my little one, has been priceless. I can attend school and focus on my studies without the stress of childcare.

I highly recommend SUNY Nassau to anyone I know, especially fellow parents. I am an advocate for education and furthering one’s career. The faculty and staff I have met at SUNY Nassau are amazing, supportive and truly care about my success. My time with SUNY Nassau has been truly positive, which has made my graduation bittersweet. I have been extremely lucky and incredibly grateful to SUNY Nassau, The Greenhouse, and the nursing faculty.

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that Nassau Community College has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.
