BANNER 9 UPGRADE AT NCC

Banner 9 Self Service

About Banner Self-Service

Banner Self-Service is the enterprise-wide Student Information System (SIS) used by the College. Students use this system to register for classes, view final course grades, and manage student account activity. This is the same system used by Admissions, the Registrar, Financial Aid, Advising, and Student Personnel Services.

As part of Nassau Community College’s student-centered mission and strategic goals, NCC is upgrading to the latest version of Banner Self-Service 9 (SSB9). The updated platform includes a modernized user interface, improved navigation, and enhanced integration capabilities with systems such as DegreeWorks, CourseDog, and Brightspace.

The updated student-facing Banner 9 environment will go live on May 21, 2026.

Phases

The transition to Banner 9 will occur in phases over several months to ensure continuity of operations and appropriate training for stakeholders and functional areas. This phased approach allows for targeted configuration and testing aligned to the needs of students and stakeholders.

Below is a timeline of Banner 9 SSB’s rollout over the course of the coming semester.

What’s Changing

The core functionality students, faculty, and staff currently use will remain available, including:

  • course registration
  • viewing schedules and grades
  • student account functions
  • advising-related tools

While the underlying functions remain familiar, the student-facing interface has been modernized to improve usability, navigation, and overall user experience.

Rollout and Transition Timeline

Phase 1: Preview and Training Environment

Spring 2026 (May 4-20)

Beginning May 4, NCC will make the Banner 9 training environment (PPRD) available through the MyNCC portal for faculty advisors, student services teams, and functional staff.

During this phase, users will have the opportunity to:

  • preview the updated Banner 9 interface
  • practice navigation and registration workflows
  • explore Student Profile and advising functionality
  • become familiar with the student experience prior to go-live

Training resources released during this phase include:

  • quick reference guides
  • walkthrough documentation
  • training videos and recorded sessions

Additional communications and updates will be distributed throughout the Spring semester.

Phase 2: Go-Live Transition

May 21–22, 2026

Banner Self-Service 9 (SSB9) will become the primary student-facing Banner environment beginning May 21, 2026.

During this transition:

  • the updated Banner 9 interface will replace the legacy student-facing experience
  • users will continue accessing Banner through MyNCC
  • support resources and technical assistance will be available throughout the transition period

Students, faculty, and staff should expect an updated look and feel, but the primary academic and registration functions will remain consistent.

Phase 3: Post-Go-Live Stabilization and Training

Summer–Fall 2026

Following go-live, NCC will continue supporting the campus community through:

  • additional live training sessions
  • updated support documentation
  • recorded vendor-led training sessions
  • workflow refinement and feedback collection

Additional training opportunities for students, faculty, advisors, and staff are planned for Fall 2026.

Why a Phased Approach

Transitioning Banner Self-Service functionality in stages allows the College to:

  • reduce disruption to critical operations
  • provide targeted support to functional areas
  • validate workflows and integrations prior to full transition
  • support adoption through training and guided practice

Each phase of the rollout is supported by documentation, communication, and technical support resources tailored to affected users.

Training and Support

Training materials and support resources will be released throughout the rollout period.

Resources include:

  • quick guides
  • sandbox access for practice
  • recorded training sessions
  • advisor and student support documentation
  • technical support during and after go-live

Faculty and staff will receive advance communication and guidance throughout the transition.
