The MWBE Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship at Nassau Community College is designed to level the playing field for MWBEs, increasing their opportunities for success and sustainability within their respective industries.
The Center will provide targeted resources, individualized instruction, and strategic guidance to help MWBEs overcome the barriers that have historically limited their participation in the county's procurement and contracting process. By equipping these enterprises with the necessary tools and expertise, the Center aims to position MWBEs for long-term growth, competitiveness, and the realization of their full economic potential.
To maximize impact, the MWBE Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship will form strategic partnerships with well-established community-based and nonprofit organizations that utilize evidence-based approaches to small business development. These collaborations will expand the Center’s reach and ensure that MWBEs are connected with experienced, business-minded professionals and organizations committed to fostering entrepreneurial success.
Central to the Center’s mission will be the engagement of seasoned entrepreneurs, mentors, coaches, and counselors who will work directly with MWBEs. These professionals will provide tailored support through mentoring relationships, one-on-one counseling, and educational workshops delivered in person, virtually, or in hybrid formats. Instruction will address critical areas such as:
By combining mentorship with structured learning opportunities, the Center will offer MWBEs a comprehensive and practical framework for navigating the complexities of establishing and scaling small businesses.
Nassau Community College is uniquely positioned to lead this initiative. The MWBE Center will leverage the expertise of the College’s Workforce Development Division, Career & Transfer Counseling Department, and distinguished faculty. In addition, the Center will create student internship opportunities, enabling NCC students to gain valuable applied experience while contributing directly to the success of MWBE enterprises. Students will support areas such as business technology, marketing, communications, social media, economics, and accounting, thereby reinforcing a mutually beneficial model of education, service, and economic empowerment.
Through this integrated approach, the MWBE Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship will serve as a catalyst for equity, opportunity, and innovation, driving measurable impact in both the MWBE community and the regional economy.
