Wanda Jackson Named to Nassau Community College Board of Trustees

 

Garden City, NY — Wanda Jackson has been appointed to the Nassau Community College (NCC) Board of Trustees by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo."I am looking forward to working with Ms. Jackson on the Board.  Her experience as Senior Vice President of Human Resources for the National Urban League, as well as her extensive knowledge of diversity, employment and leadership development, will bring to the Board a unique and important perspective," said Dr. Jorge Gardyn, Chair of the Nassau Community College Board of Trustees.Jackson is excited about joining the NCC Board.  "I am eager," she said, "to begin working with my colleagues on the Board of Trustees to help the College fulfill its mission to provide our students with a high quality, affordable education that will enable them to succeed at a four-year college and/or to enter the workforce. Throughout my 25-year career in Human Resources, a driving force has been my commitment to assisting and advising others how to maximize their personal and work-related development. I'm thrilled, as a member of the NCC Board, to have an opportunity to continue doing this from yet another perspective."Jackson is the National Urban League's Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Talent Officer. In that capacity, she plays a key role in the management of the League's leadership development programs and the exposure of young talent to the non-profit sector through the highly competitive Urban League Summer Internship Program.  Committed to helping people find employment, Jackson also manages the League's Annual Conference Career Fair, and is chiefly responsible for the JobsNetwork, an electronic job board. Additionally, she was the project manager and led the team in the research and publication of the ground-breaking study "Diversity Practices That Work: The American Worker Speaks."Jackson joined the League after a stint at A Better Chance, as the Director, Business and Professional Partnership Program. There, she worked with corporations placing academically talented minority college students in full-time jobs and internships. Jackson has also worked in New York City government as a human resources manager. She began her career in retailing, where she worked in human resources as well as in merchandising for Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy's.An active community volunteer, Jackson is a member of the Queens Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, a public service sorority, and the Associate Group of Jack and Jill of America, where she served as a past Regional Parliamentarian and President of the Queens Chapter.  She is also President and Chief Volunteer Officer of the Girls Scouts of Nassau County, and has served as the Commissioner of Girls Rookie Basketball for the Baldwin Police Activity League. Beyond Nassau County, Jackson is a member of the National Assembly Board of Directors.Jackson is a graduate of Boston University's College of Communication. She received an M.S. in Human Resources Management from the New School. Additionally, she holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources credential from the Human Resources Certification Institute.Jackson resides in Baldwin.  She and her husband Zachary have two adult children.Jackson's term on the Nassau Community College Board of Trustees extends through 2017.
