Nassau Community College to Participate in the American Heart Walk

Sunday, September 25

Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College will once again participate in the American Heart/Stroke Walk/Run, which this year will be held at Field 5 of Jones Beach in Wantagh. Three thousand volunteers and participants are expected to take part in the Walk/Run on Sunday, September 25th, with registration from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the Walk/Run starting at 10:00 a.m.

"Nassau Community College is pleased to support the American Heart/Stroke Walk for the tenth year," said Dr Donald P. Astrab, President of NCC. "The partnership established over the years between the College and the American Heart Association has created opportunities for thousands of walkers and runners to raise much needed funding for heart and stroke research." Last year, NCC raised close to $9,000 by participating in the Walk/Run.

Thomas Ockers, CEO of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, is the Chair of the 2011 American Heart/Stroke Walk/Run. Reginald Tuggle, Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications, is the NCC Heart Walk Team Chair.

The American Heart/Stroke Walk/Run, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a 5K walking and running event established to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island. It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise.
