The Nassau Community College Center for Catholic Studies Presents:  Catholic Social Thought, Social Science and Social Policy: IVApril 16

Garden City, NY – The Nassau Community College Center for Catholic Studies invites the community to a daylong conference called Catholic Social Thought, Social Science and Social Policy: IV. The conference, which will consist of 14 speakers discussing 19 topics, will take place on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the College Center Building. It’s co-sponsored by the New York Regional Chapter of the Society of Catholic Social Scientists.

Among the presentations offered at the conference will be those on American Catholic Ethnic Groups and Social Catholicism; The Concept of Evil in Christian Literature; and The Political Responsibilities of the Catholic. There will also be lectures on some of the key saints recognized in the Catholic tradition. Among the presenters will be Mike Aquilina, author or editor of more than a dozen books on Catholic history, doctrine, and devotion and vice president of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology; Mary Ellen Barrett, columnist for the Long Island Catholic and political scientist Andrew Essig of DeSales University.

This conference is the fourth of its kind offered by the Center for Catholic Studies at Nassau Community College. Presentations from the first two conferences were eventually published in 2007 in a two volume set, the Encyclopedia of Catholic Social Thought, Social Science and Social Policy. Presentations from the third and fourth conference will eventually be incorporated in Volume III, Supplement One of the encyclopedia project, with a tentative publication date sometime in 2012.
