Garden City, NY — Nassau Community College President Dr. W. Hubert Keen is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Valerie Collins as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Collins hails from Molloy College, where she has enjoyed a stellar career as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty for 17 years. In addition to those duties, Dr. Collins served as Acting President, as well as in several other positions at Molloy College over the past forty years. (download hi res image)
"I am so delighted to welcome Dr. Collins to Nassau Community College, and I know that her deep and extensive experience with institutional and program accreditation, and as an academic leader and administrator at Molloy College, makes her the perfect complement to our team as we work through the Middle States process," said Dr. Keen.
In addition to decades-long experience as a professor, Director of Undergraduate Nursing, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Faculty, and Acting President, Dr. Collins has served as Liaison for Molloy College to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education for the past 16 years. As a Middle States Association Team Visitor during those years, Dr. Collins' responsibilities included review of institutions' Self-Studies and preparation of reports to the College under review, as well as to the Middle States Commission.
Moreover, Dr. Collins has served as a Middle States Team Chairperson. As such, she was responsible for the oversight of the Middle States Visiting Team for the critical on-campus visit of the college being reviewed, and for preparation of the final report to the Commission on Higher Education, which determines the status of a college's accreditation. Dr. Collins commented, "I am excited to work with the faculty and administration at Nassau Community College on the critical issues that assure a quality academic institution."
Board of Trustees' Chairman, Dr. Jorge Gardyn hailed Dr. Collins' hiring as well, stating,"I am delighted to welcome Dr. Collins to the campus, and I know that, with her vast experience in higher education and her extensive work with the Middle States Commission, she will be an invaluable asset to Nassau Community College."
Dr. Collins begins her tenure on September 6, 2016.
