Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College is pleased to present its Fall 2015 Cultural Program, which features programs by Emmy award winning journalist Maria Hinojosa; Joe Echevarria, a man who grew up in poverty and went on to become CEO of Deloitte LLP; Angy Rivera, an undocumented child who grew up to have a successful blog for undocumented youth, and more.
Finding Success in the Land of Opportunity: From the South Bronx to CEO of Deloitte, LLP Joe Echevarria Tuesday, November 10 at 12:30 p.m. CCB Multipurpose Room A South Bronx latchkey kid who grew up in poverty, Echevarria inspires with his incredible story of working his way up the corporate ladder to becoming CEO of one of the largest accounting and consulting firms, Deloitte LLP. There he played a crucial role in serving the investor public, protecting capital markets, and ensuring high quality service. He's a frequent guest on CNBC and Fox Business and writes for the Wall Street Journal and Reuters.
Don't Tell Anyone (No Le Digas a Nadie) — live Monday, November 23 at 9:30 a.m. CCB 252/253 Angy Rivera For 19 years, Angy was an undocumented child living in fear of deportation. Finally tired of being captive to her immigration secret, she started a blog on the New York State Youth Leadership Council website called "Ask Angy," the first undocumented-youth advice column in the country. Her YouTube channel offers advice, support and humor, currently boasting more that 37,000 views. She'll share her amazing story.
Don't Tell Anyone (No Le Digas a Nadie) — the film Monday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. CCB 252/253 This recent 75-minute documentary (shown on PBS on 9/21/15) depicts Angy's story.
Political Speech: Where to Draw the Line Maria Hinojosa Wednesday, December 2 at 11:00 a.m. CCB Multipurpose Room Maria Hinojosa — urban reporter for CNN, Executive Producer for NPR's Latino USA, panelist on Meet the Press, winner of four Emmys, trailblazing investigative journalist — examines this critical issue that is changing our cultural and political landscape.

Congressman Steve Israel and Chris Matthews Friday, December 4 at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. CCB 251 Long Island Congressman Steve Israel's recent comic novel, The Global War on Morris, is in development for a cable network comedy series. He is joined by MSNBC host Chris Matthews to discuss the absurdities of Washington DC as only insiders like these two can.
