WHO The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery and the A. Holly Patterson Library at Nassau Community College WHAT Bodies in Transit depicts Latino issues that emerged out of recent relations among Brazilian, Hispanic, and U.S. Latinos. Towards this purpose, four contemporary artists — Alex Ferro, Mary Dutra, Valeria Veiga and Wilton Garcia — have been invited to portray this “new Latinidad” through multimedia art installations of photography, video and painting. WHY This exhibit is made possible by a grant to NCC’s A. Holly Patterson library called Latino Americans: 500 Years of History. The grant — offered by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association — supports the American public’s exploration of the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped shape the United States over the last five centuries and who have become, with more than 50 million people, the country’s largest minority group.
