Garden City, NY – As a State University of New York (SUNY) college, Nassau Community College is participating in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) scholarship program. The scholarship award pays the entire tuition of selected students.
In order to qualify for the initial eligibility requirements for a New York State STEM scholarship, a student must be a New York State resident and be in the top ten percent of their high school graduating class as identified by their school district. He or she must also plan to enroll full-time in a two- or four-year program of study at a SUNY or City University of New York program that meets the approved STEM requirements, among other requirements.
Once a student who receives an award under the program is in college, the college certifies his or her scholarship eligibility after the end of each term. The student must maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average and keep an approved STEM program as their major. After graduating from college, award winners must find employment in an approved STEM career in New York State and work in that career for five years following graduation. If they fail to satisfy these conditions, their award becomes a loan, which must be repaid. For a more detailed description of the requirements of a New York State STEM scholarship award, students should check with their high school. T
