What I Do: An Afternoon With Award-Winning Poet Amy King

 

April 27 

Garden City, NY – What I Do: An Afternoon With Award-Winning Poet Amy King will be presented by Nassau Community College English Professor Amy King on Monday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. in room 252/253 of the College Center Building.

Author of many books of poetry, Prof. King was awarded the prestigious 2015 Women's National Book Association (WNBA) Award. The award is given every two years to honor a woman "who has done meritorious work in the world of books beyond the duties or responsibilities of her profession or occupation." The award will be presented to Prof. King in June at WNBA's annual meeting.

Prof. King is the author of I Want to Make You Safe, I'm the Man Who Loves You, Slaves to Do These Things, Antidotes for an Alibi and The People Instruments. She also received the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities. Prof. King's poetry has been nominated for several Pushcart Prizes, and she was the recipient of a MacArthur Scholarship for Poetry. She is currently co-editing an anthology, Big Energy Poets of the Anthropocene.
