For Immediate Release – February 10, 2015
Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College will present the popular rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar March 19-22 and 25-29 at the Mainstage Theatre.Jesus Christ Superstar, the first rock opera, is based on a concept album created at the end of the turbulent 60s. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, it features Jesus as a social and political rebel and draws a parallel between contemporary celebrity worship and Jesus' own meteoric rise to renown. As Jesus' radical teachings are embraced by many, Judas increasingly questions the motives and pragmatism of this new "superstar." Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, with a thought provoking edge and explosive theatricality.Performances of Jesus Christ Superstar are at 8:00 p.m., except Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are priced at $18.00, discounted to $15.00 for those aged under 18 or over 55. Free rush tickets (beginning one hour before each performance) are available to college students with valid ID while supplies last.
