Nassau Community College Presents

Ready Player One – Bestselling Novelist & Screenwriter Ernest Cline

November 5  Ernest Cline

Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College is pleased to present Ready Player One, during which novelist, spoken word artist and screenwriter Ernest Cline will speak about his experiences and his bestselling novel Ready Player One. The program will take place three times on Wednesday, November 5 — at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., all in the Multipurpose Room of the College Center Building.

Ernest Cline grew up in the 80s by his own admission addicted to video games and pop culture. Years later, he would turn the knowledge acquired from that addiction into the subject of his bestselling novel Ready Player One, the tale of a penniless teenager's journey through cyberspace to find hidden treasures and save the world from an evil corporation. Warner Brothers bought the rights to a film adaptation of the novel before it was even published. The paperback of Ready Player One is currently in its 17th printing. Cline's second novel, Armada, to be released in the summer of 2015, is also scheduled to be made into a film.

From 1997 to 2001, Cline performed his original work at Austin Poetry Slam venues, and was the Austin Poetry Slam Champ in 1998 and 2001. In 2005, his script for Fanboys was made into a film starring Sam Huntington and Kristen Bell. Cline also wrote the screenplay Thundercade, the story of a video game junkie in his 30s who travels to the world's largest gaming championship to restore his former glory.
