Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College will be presenting Nazi Doctors: How Healers Turned Into Murderers, during which doctor and expert in medical ethics Manny Bekier will speak about the medical profession in Nazi Germany and the United States during World War II and its prelude. The program will take place on Monday, November 24 at 10:00 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the College Center Building.

Dr. Manny Bekier — born a displaced person in Germany, the son of Holocaust survivors — was a "Nazi hunter" in the 1970s. Today he is an official speaker for The Museum of The Jewish Heritage in New York. He has also been a documentary interviewer for three years with Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation, conducting video interviews with survivors of the Holocaust.

As part of a humanitarian mission in 1999, Dr. Bekier journeyed to refugee camps in Kosovo. He has also actively spoken out about the genocide that has been taking place in Darfur. An article about Dr. Bekier's life as an activist was published in Lifestyles magazine. In addition, his medical ethics paper was incorporated into the online medical ethics textbook The Ethical Consideration of Medical Experimentation on Human Subjects.

Dr. Bekier retired in September 2013 from his position as Director of the Department of Biomedical Communications at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He also holds a faculty appointment with the School of Public Health and continues to lectures every semester on the public health initiatives of Nazi Germany, the eugenics movement in Germany and the U.S. and the ethical implications of genetic research today. A nationally recognized medical illustrator, his illustrations have been published in books and international medical journals.
