Nassau Community College Celebrates Italian Heritage DayItalian American Icons in Song, Cinema and Letters

Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College is pleased to present its 29th annual Italian Heritage Day program Italian Americans in Song, Cinema and Letters, which will take place on Wednesday, October 15 at 9:00 a.m. in the College Center Building.In the "Letters" portion of Italian Americans in Song, Cinema and Letters Dr. Salvatore LaGumina, Director of the NCC Center for Italian American Studies, will give a milestones overview. "Prose and Poetry: Selected Figures" will be presented by Dr. Anthony Tamburri, Dean of the Calandra Institute of the City University of New York. In addition, NCC's Prof. Michael Anzelone will talk about Adriana Trigiani's The Shoemaker's Wife. The "Song and Cinema" portion of the program will begin with Mark Rotella of Publishers Weekly discussing "The 1950s: Dominant Crooners of the Decade." Finally, Prof. Allen Kupfer, Nassau Community College, will present "Discovering Lesser Known Film Directors." Appropriate music will be provided by Jim Greene of the College's radio station, WHPC.Italian American Icons in Song, Cinema and Letters is free, open to the public and accessible to the disabled.
