The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery at Nassau Community College Presents

Elevate

September 2 - November 13  Six-Planed Scaffolding, 2014 by Rachel Mica Weiss

Garden City, NY—The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery at Nassau Community College will present the group sculpture exhibit Elevate from September 2 through November 13. Elevate examines the exposed beauty of the art process and the unspoken strength in elements tactile and textile.During the exhibition, Artists Carolyn Salas, Rachel Mica Weiss and Monika Zarczena will use materials that remind the viewer of the forces that drive creation and of how the steps we take in the process are just as important as the end result. From the most delicate thread to the ominous weight of plaster, these artists redefine the supposed limits of their materials. The process frees the substances from their definitions as mechanisms of construction and utility and challenges viewers’ expectations while examining architectural themes. The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery at Nassau Community College is located in Room 140 of the College Center Building. Its exhibits are free and open to the public.
