Nassau Community College Presents

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

March 20 - 23 & 26 - 30

Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College will present the rollicking musical comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum March 20 through 23 and 26 through 30 at the Mainstage Theatre. With a book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart (who went on to create M*A*S*H), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’s music and lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim. Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus, the play tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. The plot displays many classic elements of farce, including puns, the slamming of doors, cases of mistaken identity (frequently involving characters disguising themselves as one another) and satirical comments on social issues.Performances of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. Tickets, which cost $18.00 per person, can be obtained by calling the Theatre box office at 516.572.7676 Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Free rush tickets are available at the door for current college students with valid Spring 2014 ID for every day except Sunday.Ref: 1722.2/18/14/180About Nassau Community College Nassau Community College, part of the State University of New York, is an institution where nearly 23,000 full- and part-time students and approximately 10,000 continuing and professional students start and continue their successful journey through higher education. More than 70 fields of study are offered on a 225-acre campus located in the center of Long Island. As the largest single-campus two-year college in New York State, Nassau Community College maintains a national reputation for excellence.
