Stick Fly

January 24-26 & January 29-February 2

Garden City, NY – The Nassau Community College Departments of Theatre and Dance and Africana Studies are pleased to present the drama Stick Fly, which will be performed at the Mainstage Theatre January 24 through 26 and January 29 through February 2.In Stick Fly, two brothers bring their girlfriends to the family's summer home on Martha's Vineyard to meet their parents. Taylor, an academic, struggles to fit into the upper-crust lifestyle of the affluent African American LeVay family, while Kimber—a self described WASP who works with inner city school children—fits in more easily. The two women, however, don't hit it off and sparks fly. As the ladies face off over issues of race and privilege, tensions reach a boiling point and long-buried family secrets are revealed.Stick Fly was written by Lydia R. Diamond, a nationally recognized playwright who has been a W.E.B. DuBois Institute Fellow and a Huntington Playwriting Fellow. The play was performed on Broadway in 2011.Performances of Stick Fly are at 8:00 p.m., except Sunday, when they are at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are priced at $9.00. They are $7.00 for those 55 or over.
