Garden City, NY – The Nassau Community College Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Kathy Weiss, Ph.D. has been elected by the NCC Board of Trustees to be its Vice Chair."Members of the Board appreciate the wisdom, expertise and common sense that Dr. Weiss will bring to her new position on the Board, and I, personally, look forward to working with her as part of the Board's leadership team," said Dr. Jorge Gardyn, who is the Chair of the NCC Board of Trustees.Dr. Kenneth Saunders, Acting President of NCC, added, "With her experience as a professor and in educational administration, as well as with her depth of knowledge on issues of importance to the College community, Dr. Weiss will be able to share with us her perspective and wisdom that we will all surely value and from which we will all surely benefit."Dr. Weiss has devoted most of her career to the administrative aspects of education. She is currently an adjunct professor at LIU Post's education school and a special compliance officer for sexual harassment, ethnic harassment and workplace discrimination for school districts in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Previously, Dr. Weiss served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Baldwin school district for twelve years. In addition, she served as an assistant superintendent, high school principal, and elementary and high school teacher. Dr. Weiss has spoken on the local, state and national level about such topics as shared decision-making, using data to improve instruction, and school/community communications.Dr. Weiss served as President of the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents, President of the Nassau County District Curriculum Officials and as President of the Nassau County District Curriculum Officials, as well as on the Superintendents' Board of the Section VIII Athletics. Active in her community, Dr. Weiss is presently the treasurer for the Board of Directors of The Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education and has served on the board for the past sixteen years. She also was a member of the Long Island Blood Services Leadership Team. After receiving her BA in Mathematics from Syracuse University, Dr. Weiss obtained an MA in Mathematics from the Courant Institute of New York University and a Ph.D. from New York University. She is a resident of Oyster Bay. Dr. Weiss's term on the Nassau Community College Board of Trustees extends through 2017.
