Nassau Community College Presents

Sexual Persecution: A Weapon of War and Genocide

 Garden City, NY – The Jewish Studies Project at Nassau Community College is proud to present Sexual Persecution: A Weapon of War and Genocide, which will take place on Wednesday, October 10 at 2:30 p.m. in Room 252-253 of the College Center Building.Sexual Persecution: A Weapon of War and Genocide will be presented by Beth Lilach, Education Director of the Glen Cove Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center. In her presentation, she will discuss specific cases of mass rape and sexualized violence regarding Jews during the Holocaust, Koreans during the Japanese occupation in World War II, Muslims during the Balkan war in the 1990s, and Tutsis during the Rwandan genocide. Lilach will also examine the aftermath of large-scale sexual violence and its impact on individuals and communities. She will describe why it's still considered a "taboo" subject by survivors as well as historians. At the end of the talk, research and action resources will be distributed.Beth Lilach is the Senior Director of Education and Community Affairs at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center in Glen Cove. She is on the Executive Board and Education Committee of the Nassau County Task Force on Bias Crimes and serves on the Advisory Board for the Nassau County Commission on Human Rights. Lilach is a member of myriad professional organizations, including African Studies Association, the International Association of Genocide Scholars, and the Women's Studies Association.
