Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College will participate in this year's American Heart/Stroke Walk, which will be held at Jones Beach, Field 5, on Sunday, September 22nd. Registration will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10:00 a.m. Three thousand volunteers and participants are expected to take part."Nassau Community College is pleased to again support the American Heart/Stroke Walk, for the twelfth year," said Dr. Kenneth Saunders, Acting President of NCC. "The partnership established over the years between the College and the American Heart Association has created opportunities for thousands of walkers to raise much needed funding for heart and stroke research." Last year, NCC received close to $6,000 in donations.The American Heart/Stroke Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a 5K walk/run event established to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island. It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise. "Heart disease is the number one killer of men and women...more than all cancers combined," according to the American Heart Association.Nassau Community College's honoree this year is Bob Reily. Bob survived quintuple bypass surgery in 2012.
