Jocelyn Molina Elected NCC Student Trustee

Garden City, NY — When Jocelyn Molina came to Nassau Community College in the fall of 2011, she was expecting to take classes and study. She was not expecting to get involved with — and take pleasure from — college life. “It wasn’t until I became a freshman student leader that I found out about all the things that Nassau has to offer students,” said the 20-year old. Now, Jocelyn is a strong advocate of taking advantage of NCC’s myriad clubs, events and activities. A liberal arts major and a Phi Theta Kappa honor society member, Jocelyn is also involved with the Student Organization of Latinos. And now, as the new student trustee, Jocelyn will seek to be the voice of her fellow students on the College’s Board of Trustees. She believes that she can learn from the experience of participating on a College Board. “This is a unique experience for me. I like the fact that I will be able to take part in the decision making process at a large institution like Nassau,” she remarked.Jocelyn noted that communication between the various groups at the College, including students, faculty, administrators and staff, is something that she will make a priority during her time as student trustee. If everyone feels like his or her voice has been heard and their needs have been considered, they are more likely to feel that they are part of solution and feel comfortable with it, she said. Jocelyn encourages any student with a question or concern to come to her or a Student Government Association representative, who will be happy to assist them.In high school, Jocelyn, a resident of Roslyn, had the opportunity to “shadow” a nurse at North Shore University Hospital. This experience had an impact on her. “I realized that this is what I what to do with my life,” she said. She continues to volunteer as a floater in several different departments at North Shore, in that way being exposed to many different areas of the healthcare profession. After graduating from NCC, Jocelyn plans to continue on to a four-year school and become a nurse.
