For more information about the NCC Cultural Program, please call 516.572.7148.Wed., March 6 at 12:30 p.m., College Center Building (CCB) – Fair Food: Growing a Healthy, Sustainable Food System for All – A national leader in sustainable agriculture, Oran Hesterman is the CEO of Fair Food Network. He wants to change not only what we eat, but how our food is grown, packaged, delivered and sold.  Thurs., March 7 at 1:00 p.m., CCB – Hip Hop and Social Justice – Michael Dyson is a cutting edge historian and professor of sociology who educates about the relationship among hip hop, black culture and American culture. Sponsored by the 2013 Hip Hop Ad Hoc Committee, Women’s History Month, Black History Month and the Cultural Program.Mon., March 11 at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., CCB – "Enrique’s Journey" and America’s Immigration Dilemma – Prize-winning journalist Sonia Nazario has tackled some of America’s worst problems: hunger, drug addiction, immigration. Her book “Enrique’s Journey,” about a Honduran boy’s struggle to find his mother in the U.S., is required reading for freshmen at many colleges, including Nassau Community College. Nazario herself overcame many obstacles to become the youngest person ever hired at “The Wall Street Journal.”Mon., April 8 at 11:00 a.m., CCB – Although Martin Tankleff served 17 years in prison for murdering his parents, in 2007 his conviction was vacated, and then all charges against him were dropped. Today, Tankleff is in his third year of law school and has embarked on a lifelong crusade to help the innocent.Wed., April 10 at 2:00 p.m., CCB – The Future of the Republican Party – Son of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, nephew of former President George W. Bush and grandson of former President George H.W. Bush, George P. Bush is the founder of Hispanic Republicans of Texas. His resume includes corporate lawyer, investment capitalist, U.S. Navy officer, and a long tradition of personal and familial public service.Thurs., April 18 at 10:00 a.m., Tower 11^th Floor – Ending Gun Violence – Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel has represented the 16^th District in the New York State Assembly since 2007. Prior to 2007 she was the Town Clerk of North Hempstead for eight years. A leader on anti-crime initiatives, Schimel is the elected Co-Chair of the New York State Chapter of State Legislators Against Illegal Guns.Mon., April 22 at 12:30 p.m., CCB – How to Turn Republicans and Democrats Into Americans! – Former Congressman Mickey Edwards was a senior member of the House Republican leadership. His latest book, “The Parties versus the People,” describes the current dysfunction in government and recommends ten specific steps to fix it.Wed., April 24 at 11:00 a.m., CCB – Michelle Obama and the Power of Style – Former editor-in-chief at “Harper’s Bazaar,” contributing editor at “Time” and fashion news director at “Vogue,” Kate Betts’ book on Michelle Obama examines how a working mother of two became an unforgettable global style icon – and why it matters!Mon., April 29 at 11:00 a.m., CCB – Mental Health Policy and the Gun Control Debate – The youngest member of the Kennedy family to hold elected office, Congressman Patrick Kennedy served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1994 to 2011. He has distinguished himself as a leader on issues of healthcare, mental health, technology, veterans and civil rights. Since leaving office, Kennedy has devoted himself to bettering treatment for brain disease.
