Garden City, NY – The Nassau Community College Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Jorge L.
Gardyn MD, FACP has been elected by the NCC Board of Trustees to be its Vice Chair.
Dr. Gardyn, who became a Board member on August 1, 2011, will begin his term as Vice
Chair immediately. (download hi res photo) "I know that I speak for all of the Board members when I say that we highly value
the wisdom, experience and common sense that Dr. Gardyn will bring to his new position
on the Board, and I, personally, look forward to working with him as part of the Board's
leadership team," said Geoffrey Prime, who is the Chair of the NCC Board of Trustees.Dr.
Gardyn is a board certified internist who is currently the Division Chief of Occupational
and Corporate Medicine at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. He has
been in private practice since 1990, and in 1995 started Island Occupational Medical
Resources, which specializes in occupational medical examinations. Dr. Gardyn has
been at the forefront of providing quality medical services for the volunteer firefighters
of Nassau and Suffolk counties. He is the Medical Director for the Nassau County EMS
Academy, the Nassau County Fire Service Academy and the Vocational Educational Extension
Board License Practical Nursing Program. Dr. Gardyn also serves as the Vice Chairman
of the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center.Dr. Gardyn has also
been active over the years in the teaching of medical students, residents, nurse practitioner
students and physician assistant students, and has clinical academic appointments
to Stony Brook University School of Medicine, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine
and Touro College of Health Sciences."Since coming to the NCC Board of Trustees, I
have gained an even fuller appreciation of what NCC means to its students and to the
community. I have also seen the dedication and expertise that it takes to make and
maintain the College as the gem of educational excellence that it is," Dr. Gardyn said.
He added, "As Vice Chair, I will work with my fellow Board members to ensure that the
College continues to move forward as a center for educational and career development
and as a resource for economic and cultural vitality in the Long Island region.”Dr.
