Garden City, NY – The Nassau Community College departments of Theatre and Dance and Africana Studies are proud to present the drama “Intimate Apparel” by Lynn Nottage. The play will be performed in the Little Theatre January 25 through 27 and January 30 through February 3.“Intimate Apparel” is about Esther, an ambitious, talented and self-reliant thirty-something African American seamstress living on her own in a boarding house in lower Manhattan in 1905. As she works tirelessly to create custom-made lingerie for New York’s uptown ladies — and its downtown ladies of the evening — Esther yearns for two things, true love and a business of her own. In spite of the societal class, race, age and gender dictates of the time, Esther forges ahead to pursue her dreams. “Intimate Apparel” won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play.Tickets for “Intimate Apparel” cost $9.00 per person. Seniors 55 or over pay $7.00. Performances are at 8:00 p.m. daily, except for Sunday, when they begin at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are free for college students with valid current ID who buy them at the door for that night’s performance.
