Nassau Community College Presents:

"Can America and the Muslim World Be Friends?The Arab Spring and the Future of Islam and Democracy"

Garden City, NY — The Nassau Community College Fall 2012 Cultural Program is proud to present "Can America and the Muslim World Be Friends? The Arab Spring and the Future of Islam and Democracy," a presentation by Haroon Moghul, a research fellow in the National Security Studies Program at the New America Foundation. The program will take place on Monday, October 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the College Center Building. In addition to being a research fellow at the New America Foundation, Haroon Moghul appears on CNN, al-Jazeera, the BBC and NPR. His work appears in "Foreign Policy" and "Religion Dispatches," where he recently wrote, "each side is pushed by opportunists and radicals to see the other as dangerous and threatening ... When we admit to our own complexity, we'll begin to see that there is a way for sanity to triumph over insanity." Moghul, a Ph.D. candidate at Columbia University in Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies, is also a fellow in Muslim Politics and Societies at the Center on National Security at Fordham Law. In addition, he is senior editor at "The Islamic Monthly" and a fellow at the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding. NCC Cultural Program events, which are free, open to the public and accessible to the disabled, are sponsored by the Office of Student Activities, Student Personnel Services.
