Nassau Community College's New Life Science Building Ribbon Cutting

Garden City, NY – On Tuesday, October 23, Nassau Community College will celebrate the opening of its new Life Sciences Building with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony. The ceremony, with invited guests, is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. in the courtyard of the Life Sciences Building. This capital project represents a $40 million investment by New York State and Nassau County and promotes a new standard of excellence in educating our students and serving the community. It is a symbol of how, through the utilization of our creative energies, we can undertake a substantial capital project and still be extraordinarily sensitive to environmental considerations. The 74,000 square-foot Life Sciences Building will house the College's Nursing and Chemistry programs and will allow for the education of more students, which is especially important in light of the growing need for health care services in the region. The building accommodates state-of-the-art equipment, including a computerized hospital simulation lab and six practical skills nursing training rooms. In conjunction with our dedicated faculty, it will result in our students being able to pursue their course work in a setting that will enhance the learning process. All of this potential for promoting academic excellence and career advancement is wrapped in a building that is designed to achieve LEED "Gold" Certification. Its exterior is clad in recycled copper panels, and it employs many energy conservation measures, including an energy-saving rain screen facade system, storm water recycling for site irrigation, daytime lighting sensors, energy-efficient HVAC components and a building management system. The Life Sciences Building will be an integral component of NCC's fulfilling of its mission to our students and the communities in which they live.
