Nassau Community College to Participate in the American Heart/Stroke Walk

Sunday, September 23

Garden City, NY – Jones Beach, Field 5, is again the official Nassau County location for this year's American Heart/Stroke Walk, and Nassau Community College is again a proud supporter of the Walk. Three thousand volunteers and participants are expected to take part in the Walk, which will take place on Sunday, September 23rd, with registration from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the Walk itself beginning at 10:00 a.m.

"Nassau Community College is pleased to again support the American Heart/Stroke Walk for the tenth year," said Dr. Kenneth K. Saunders, Officer in Charge at Nassau Community College. "The partnership established over the years between the College and the American Heart Association has created opportunities for thousands of walkers to raise much needed funding for heart and stroke research." Over the last few years, the College community has raised over $30,000 for American Heart Association in NCC's name.

This year's Red Cap Survivor, 12-year-old Cecilia Funk, was born with a congenital heart block. Cecilia is very active and serves as the student body vice president of her middle school. She is very engaging, takes dance and voice lessons, and has the lead in her school's production of "Alice in Wonderland."

John R. Buran, President and CEO of Flushing Bank, is Chair of the 2012 American Heart/Stroke Walk. Sponsored by the American Heart Association, the 5K walking/running event raises funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island. It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise.
