Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College announced that Dr. Kenneth K. Saunders has been named Officer in Charge effective July 31, 2012. Dr. Saunders stated, "I am honored by the confidence that the NCC Board of Trustees has placed in me, and I look forward to working with all segments of the campus and the Long Island community in advancing the mission of Nassau Community College of providing an affordable and accessible higher education to our students and serving the region's needs in a multiplicity of ways."
Geoffrey Prime, Chair of the NCC Board of Trustees, is enthusiastic about Dr. Saunders' appointment. Said Chairman Prime, "The Board of Trustees looks forward to working with Dr. Saunders and all members of the College community in meeting our mutual goals on behalf of our students. Dr. Saunders' background at NCC well positions him to take a leadership role in this extraordinarily important effort."
Dr. Saunders, a resident of Freeport, earned a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Management and Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Howard University. In addition, he attended the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University. Dr. Saunders brings over 28 years of experience as a senior higher education administrator (fifteen in the SUNY system) at several highly regarded educational institutions, including the State University of New York at Old Westbury, the University of Michigan-Flint, Howard University and Illinois State University. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President of Nassau. Prior to that he was for twelve years the College's Vice President for Academic Student Services.
