Faruque Amin Named Nassau Community College's 2012-2013 Student TrusteeFaruque Amin, NCC 2012-2013 Student Trustee

Garden City, NY – Faruque Amin — the Bellerose, Queens resident who was named the student trustee to the Nassau Community College Board of Trustees for the 2012-2013 academic year — feels that he has received much support from NCC. "The College really helps you, both inside and outside the classroom," said the 22-year-old, who will be going into his sophomore year in the fall. "I wanted to give something back." Towards that end, this year Amin was a freshman senator to the Academic Senate. During his time as student trustee next year, he intends to act as an advocate for students, to assist the board in making decisions that maintain and better the experience of his fellow students. Geoffrey Prime, Chair of the NCC Board of Trustees, thinks that Amin will be a good addition to the Board. "I look forward to working with Faruque, and I know that he will provide the Board with very valuable input from the students' perspective," he said. In addition to Nassau's myriad academic opportunities, Amin is grateful for the College's campus life. "I'm really impressed by NCC. There's something for everyone here," he said. Last year, he was vice president of Nassau's national award-winning Speech and Debate team and participated in the Outing Club, in which students go hiking, camping, cross-country skiing and other outdoor activities on the weekends. In his spare time, Amin enjoys photography and taking advantage of the latest developments in technology.

Amin, who is a business major, is especially interested in business law. Upon graduation in 2013, he hopes to go on to Columbia University.
