Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College President Dr. Donald P. Astrab and SUNY Empire State College President Dr. Alan R. Davis recently signed an agreement that broadens the opportunity for NCC students to earn a bachelor’s degree.

“Students who attend Nassau Community College bring to the campus their educational goals and their determination,” said Dr. Astrab. “What the Pathways agreement between NCC and Empire State College adds to the mix is a guidepost that will maximize our students’ potential for success. It’s a success that will benefit them personally and will also benefit the communities in which they live and work.” The Pathways Transfer Program is designed for NCC students who have completed or will complete an associate degree prior to enrolling at Empire State College. Through the agreement, all of the credits students earn at Nassau can be transferred toward a bachelor’s degree at Empire State, providing a seamless transition from one college to the other.

“Today’s Pathways agreement between Nassau Community College and Empire State College will help to better educate more SUNY students,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher, who attended the signing. “This agreement builds on the work SUNY has already done to dramatically improve student transfer across the 64 campus system.”

Empire State College educates learners online and face-to-face through independent studies, seminars and residencies at 34 locations throughout New York State, including Old Westbury, Hauppauge and Riverhead. Students may complete up to 80 credits, including the associate degree, at Nassau, as long as the courses meet bachelor’s degree requirements. The remaining 48 credits will be completed at Empire State. “The Pathways agreement removes barriers of time and place and makes it easier for Nassau Community College graduates to live and work in their communities while earning a SUNY Empire State College bachelor’s degree,” said Davis.
