Groundbreaking on New Life Sciences Building at Nassau Community College

* WHY: Construction began this spring on a $40 million Life Sciences Building that will house the Nursing and Chemistry departments, benefitting approximately 1,300 students annually. The building will be “U” shaped with glass walls lining, and an open-air courtyard enclosed in, the inside of the U. It will incorporate smart boards and wireless technology throughout. The building design seeks to attain a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) “Gold” certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The architect on the project is Canon Designs; the construction manager is Jacobs Engineering; and the construction contractor is Aurora Contractors. Construction on the Life Sciences Building is expected to take 20 months.
