Newsday’s Boy’s and Girl’s Wrestling Coaches of the Year
Both Former Student Athletes at Nassau Community College

April 16, Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College congratulates Artie Weidler and Joe Scioli, named Nassau County’s Boy’s Wrestling Coach and Girl’s Wrestling Coach of the Year, respectively, by Newsday.  Both coaches are former student athletes at NCC.

Continuing his education at SUNY Brockport after NCC, Artie Weidler was a four time New York State Collegiate Champion, a five time Empire State Games Gold Medalist, and New York State Wrestler of the Year.  This season Weidler coached the Farmingdale High School Dalers to a 14-1 record and their first Nassau Division I title since 1972.  Now in his ninth season coaching, he has 92 wins in his career.

Joe Scioli was a two time NJCAA Academic All-American and a former Mid-Atlantic Regional Champion.  Coach Scioli led Bellport High School girl’s wrestling team to the team title at the inaugural state tournament.  Bellport also won the team competition at the Suffolk championship.
