Nassau Community College’s Radio Station, WHPC 90.3 FM, Nominated for 12 Awards by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System

Including Best Community College Radio Station and Best Morning Show

January 6, Garden City, NY - WHPC 90.3 FM, “The Voice of Nassau Community College,” has been nominated for 12 awards by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) including Best Community College Radio Station, Best Morning Show, Best Political News, and Best Foreign Language Program, among others.

“Every year, my students, community volunteers, and staff continue to amaze me when I listen to the high-quality entertainment and information that they are producing on-air,” said Shawn Novatt, Director of WHPC 90.3 FM. “Getting industry recognition from organizations like the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System proves that we are staying true to our educational mission: to provide professional broadcast training to qualified Nassau Community College students, and these nominations prove we have set the bar high to accomplish that goal.  Let’s Go WHPC and NCC!”

“Amid a pivotal political moment, I reveled in the opportunity to elevate and show up for the voices of our community, whose stories are often overlooked, creating a platform for their experiences to be heard exclusively on WHPC,” said student Anaya Isaacs, who was nominated for the ‘Best Political News Coverage’ award for her coverage of then-candidate Donald Trump’s rally at nearby Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. “As this event brought our community into focus, I took on the responsibility of covering this transformative time in our nation’s history, proudly representing the college and the radio station with authenticity, striving to represent the diverse perspectives that shape our collective narrative.”

Nassau Community College’s radio station is home to approximately 100 volunteers, most of whom are NCC students.  Its programming includes sports, entertainment, and informational shows, including a variety of music shows featuring everything from pop and rock to polka and Italian formats.  The station can be heard at 90.3 FM and worldwide through the iHeartRadio, Audacy, TuneIn, and ‘WHPC’ apps, as well as Amazon Alexa and Google Home devices (say “Play WHPC!”). It is the only college radio station in Nassau and Suffolk to broadcast in high definition.
