Nassau’s MWBE Center to Host Procurement 101 Series
for Small Businesses on June 26

Garden City, NY, June 12, 2024 – The MWBE (Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise) Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship at Nassau Community College (NCC) will present “Navigating Opportunities for Small Business Owners on Long Island,” the first installment of the center’s Procurement 101 Series. The event will be held on Wednesday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon in the College Center Building (CCB) Multipurpose Room on the Garden City campus of NCC.

“By empowering minority and women-owned businesses, we are driving innovation and economic growth,” said Theresa Aydelott, Interim Chief Diversity Officer, Assistant Vice President of Equity and Inclusion, Affirmative Action and Title IX for Nassau Community College. “This session is just the beginning of our journey to support and elevate underrepresented entrepreneurs, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed."

"Supporting our community with resources and expert assistance has always been part of our mission. We are delighted that the center is now offering its first series of programs for local small business owners."

The free program is designed to equip minority and women-owned businesses with what they need to navigate and capitalize on available procurement opportunities in today’s marketplace. Topics include an overview of the NCC and Community Development Long Island (CDLI) bidding processes, updates on new and expanding vendor opportunities, and financial tips and insights for MWBE businesses.

“At this specialized event, you will network with procurement experts, connect with peers and learn how to increase your company’s visibility in the marketplace,” said Rhonda L. Maco, Esq., Director of Special Programs at Nassau’s Office of Equity, Inclusion and Affirmative Action.

“CDLI is proud to partner with the MWBE Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship to connect with existing and aspiring small businesses owned by individuals of color, women, and veterans,” said Gwen O’Shea, President & CEO, Community Development Long Island.  “This collaboration aims to provide business owners with insight into not only contractual bidding procedures and requirements, but additional information and resources to achieve professional and personal financial stability, growth and success.”
