Garden City, NY, May 16, 2024 – Kyle Castellano of Elmont is the valedictorian of the Nassau Community College Class of 2024. With a 4.0 average at NCC, the Computer Science major is headed to Stanford University in the fall.
Born in New York City, Kyle’s early years were spent in Trinidad and Tobago. He moved back to New York after graduating from high school and worked full-time for a year. “My aunt told me that community colleges were cost effective and that you received a high quality of education,” he said. Kyle noted that his classes at NCC, as well as getting involved in different clubs and competitions on campus, made his experience at the college rewarding and enjoyable. A particular highlight, according to Kyle, was participating in the 2022 International Collegiate Programming Contest with other members of the Association for Computing Machinery club. He eventually became the president of the club and made many friends there. While working, Kyle has also been active in the Engineering Society and the Mathematics and Computers club.
Kyle is excited about being the valedictorian of NCC’s Class of 2024. “I applied looking for my next challenge in life and it has certainly been just that,” he said. “Finding the time to write and practice my speech in the midst of this hectic semester hasn’t been easy but I love it,” continued Kyle, who expressed his gratitude to his family, professors and advisors for the honor.
Recently receiving an acceptance letter from Stanford University, Kyle plans to continue his education at the California based college. He ultimately hopes to become a member of a tech-focused team that works on innovations to support a better standard of living.
Inside and outside of college, Kyle’s faith is important to him. As a member of the Legion of Mary in high school he visited local orphanages and nursing homes. In this country, he serves as a lector at his church.
