May 2, 2023, Garden City, NY — Former Nassau Community College (NCC) football player Jordan Jones ‘19 was drafted as a free agent by the LA Rams this past weekend. Jones is the third NCC Lions football player to currently be playing in the NFL. Rasul Douglas ’15, cornerback of the Green Bay Packers, and Ian Thomas (attended 2014-2016), tight end of the North Carolina Panthers, both played for the College’s award-winning football team. In total, 41 former NCC student athletes have played in the NFL to date.
Jones first gained recognition for his exceptional talent as a defensive back while playing for Nassau Community College from 2017 to 2018, during which time he played a key role in the team's 2018 Bowl game championship win. While at NCC he was a Junior College All-American with 11 interceptions in 22 games. After his impressive tenure at Nassau, Jones earned a full scholarship to the University of Rhode Island, where he continued to shine as a leader of the team, dominating in various defensive categories within the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
“I have had the pleasure of coaching Jordan Jones, and I must say, it has been an absolute joy. Jordan’s passion for the game is unmatched, and his dedication to the team has been evident both on and off the field. Seeing his growth over the past years has been truly exciting, and I cannot wait to see what he accomplishes in the future,” said NCC Lions Football Head Coach Jamel Ramsay. “I am incredibly proud of everything Jordan has achieved so far, and I have no doubt he will continue to make Nassau Football proud. I want to take this opportunity to wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
