Make Dreams Come True for Young Women at the Annual "Prom Boutique"at Nassau Community College

Dress and Accessories Donation Dates:  Through March 25 (unless otherwise noted)

Garden City, NY – This year, Nassau Community College will once again partner with the Long Island Volunteer Center to host the annual "Prom Boutique," a program that enables individuals and businesses to donate new or gently used prom and bridesmaid dresses for distribution to deserving young women. All dresses and accessories will be distributed free of charge to girls of families across Long Island who cannot easily absorb the expense of a new gown for their prom, awards ceremony, or graduation. High school guidance counselors, at-risk youth agencies, group homes, and church outreaches make the program available to their constituents.

Nearly 1,500 young women from different schools and organizations across Long Island and the outer boroughs benefit from this program each year. This program is a major, College-wide initiative that provides NCC students with real world experience in the areas of retailing, visual merchandising, fashion buying, event planning, marketing, and public relations. The event also provides an excellent proving ground for students to learn the importance of social responsibility in the community. Students, faculty and staff from all disciplines of the College volunteer to help with set-up and running of the boutique.

Prof. Heidi O'Connell, Coordinator of the Prom Boutique, said, "Every year, we look forward to partnering with the Long Island Volunteer Center on this very worthwhile project that benefits our students while at the same time giving back to our local community. This is our 15th year of working together." Each year the boutique increases in popularity, added Prof. O'Connell.
