Immediate: February 8, 2018
Garden City, NY — The 2018 Dance Concert at Nassau Community College will be performed February 15 through 18 at the Mainstage Theatre on the NCC campus. The concert will feature modern dance and ballet pieces with choreography by Profs. Holley Farmer and Evelina Balassanian.
Prof. Farmer performed with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company for 14 years. She created the role of Babe in Twyla Tharp's Broadway musical Come Fly Away. Prof. Farmer continues to stage dance works for the Merce Cunningham Trust. Prof. Balassanian, an Armenian, was invited to train at a ballet company in Leningrad where — at the age of 14 — she became the youngest dancer to join the company. She has performed professionally as a soloist and lead dancer in classical and modern ballets with major dancers, teachers and choreographers, including George Balanchine, John Buttler and Nicholas Briazoff.
Performances of the 2018 Dance Concert are at 8:00 p.m., except on Sundays, when they are at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $9.00, discounted to $7.00 for those aged 55 and over. Children under the age of 18 pay $5.00, while college students with a valid I.D. are let in free. The theatre box office can be reached at 516.572.7676 Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., except on College holidays.
